File Associations & File Extension GED Information

File extension is a type of metadata that commonly used to infer information about the way data might be saved in the file. People may be confused to recognize all file extensions in their computers where in fact there are so many file extensions associated with various software applications that running in the operating systems like DOS/ Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. For instance, in fact many computer users are stuck with the MS Word 2007. They did not notice the change of default extension .doc to .docx. And they get confused when they have to open the files in MS Word 2003.
Besides that, in the Windows often occur registry errors that cause incorrect file associations or missing link between the files and the programs. Windows will over and over again ask you to locate appropriate program to open the file. This is very disturbing and can affect your computer’s performance.

It is a GEDCOM (GEneological Data COMmunications) standard file format. File Extension GED stores family history and genealogical event data like name, date of birth and death, relative names, residence, and other family information.
