Special Insight: Tactical Weapons AR15 and M16

The military is really familiar with legendary AR15 or M16 rifle, the American made, as one of mandatory weapons for army. The weapon with 5.56 mm in caliber is so popular since the Vietnam War, in 1966. At that time this lightweight rifle was the standard weapon of 15 countries of NATO. In addition, M16 was also used in several large battles in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Although the Pentagon uses some type of weapon including HCK 416 (used by the team elite such as Delta Force), but M16 is still believed as the best one because it has been in a variety of battlefield in a significant time period.

In November 1964, the United States Forces ordered a number of AR-15 (code name XM16E1) from Colt Firearms as the license holder of the AR-15, which purchased from Fairchild in December 1959. Various reports about the weaknesses of this M16 caused the U.S. Congress did some investigation to the ability of the rifle and the bullet. Therefore XM16E1/M16 was modified into new M16E1 with chrome coating, cleaner device, and customized to the ammunition of the army. Read the rest of this entry »
